2NE1: A Global Inspiration

Jeremy Scott a prolific designer known for his bold colours and daring prints is portrayed in his collections and Adidas collaborations has celebrities such as Nicki Minaj endorsing his designs. Successful as Nicki Minaj is she isn't the sole advocate to his designs. Jeremy Scott has employed a group of girls less acknowledged in the western world for that, 2NE1.

2NE1 a k-pop girl group, is known for their sophisticated Hip-Hop style all thorough out Asia. The group consists of four ladies; CL, Minzy, Dara and Bom. In America they are first Asian group to sell out in the Nokia stadium in Los Angeles and even in London you may hear them in the occasional H&M store. However to most people the only response to 2NE1 is ‘who’s that?’ Well the answer is simple, they are trend setters. Creepers, a shoe trend that was big in 2012 in London can be seen to be worn by these women in their video ‘Follow me’ in 2010. Snap back another trend in 2012 was also shown in the same video.

Their style influences many designers of high fashion brands and street brands alike.  Trend forecasters go to  the far east of Asia to analyse the new treads coming to London. Seoul, Capital of South Korea is one of the favored cities to visit.  This is how 2NE1 style gets to us. As a popular band in South Korea there style influences that nation.  As a result tread forecasters relay information of shops in South Korea that is inspired by their style to their respected designers to make fashion forward clothes for us.

2NE1 may not be well known to the general public in London but their style has caught many designers’ eyes, the late Alexander McQueen among them. Used as inspiration for notorious designers like Jeremy Scott show that the influence they carry is monumental to fashion.
